The Rail Programs Coordinator (Coordinator) will provide support to clients, project managers and planners on multimodal transportation projects and assignments, using information or designs developed or supported by subject matter experts.

Project support and coordination duties include:

  • Support, administration, and tracking of projects, coordination with stakeholders, and related reports and deliverables.
  • Support the development of competitive federal and state grant funding applications for multimodal transportation projects for clients as requested.
  • Support with project administration including:
    • Task order initiation, including development, coordination and negotiation of scopes, fee and man-hour estimates with our clients.
    • Management of a project's scope, schedule, and budget throughout its life.
    • Development and tracking of project budgets, schedules, and invoices.
  • Support the development of:
    • Technical reports, policy, processes, and analytical materials for project plans used in formulation of planning and feasibility studies and transportation policies and initiatives.
    • The management and administration of select work programs on behalf of clients.
  • Document scans, literature searches, and information gathering, including broad analysis and assessment of transportation projects and issues.
  • Evaluations of formal and informal proceedings regarding transportation industry issues and their impacts and outcomes.
  • Provide support using analytical approaches to prioritize transportation projects, programs and services that may include safety and/or condition evaluations and improvements, state of good repair, new services or service changes, and capital improvements/investments.
  • Assist with the development of project recommendations and prioritization using analytical models as necessary and trained on. Provide input into development of recommendations for infrastructure improvements including crossing safety, rail facilities, and other investments required utilizing the data and analysis developed.

An ideal candidate will have a working technical background in transportation planning and project development including experience in the planning and development of multi-modal transportation projects as well as alternatives analysis, corridor studies, and long-range planning, providing services to interdisciplinary teammates, clients, other consultants, stakeholders, and the public.

The successful candidate will possess the following core competencies and characteristics:

  • 5-7 years of previous experience working in areas that involved the planning and/or engineering of transportation projects and systems;
  • Previous experience in development of funding proposals or competitive grant applications based on an understanding of benefit cost analysis development is desirable;
  • Organization skills in coordinating meetings, conferences, project reviews, taking and compiling technical note and priority lists, and issuing meeting minutes or summaries;
  • Previous analytical experience developing transportation plans and proposals;
  • Conversant and displays intellectual curiosity and interest in the planning, development and delivery of transportation projects and support of related initiatives;
  • Ability to both work independently and reliably when remote work is possible and on-site as a part of in-person teams.
  • Fully conversant with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite of programs;
  • Ability to communicate effectively: written, verbal, nonverbal;
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Some regional travel may be required to support projects and initiatives. The successful candidate will be required to work effectively in team situations, collaborating with engineering and planning teams in support of projects.
