This position is a training position that can prepare the qualified individual for the required HT, ASCP certification.
Training includes specimen integrity, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of tissues.
The trainee learns how to prepare the surgical specimens for microscopic evaluation by the pathologist. Once trained the individual should be able to Independently perform, interpret, validate and correlate tests as ordered by the physicians by following the approved departmental procedures and in accordance with all regulatory agencies.
The individual must have the ability to determine that the test results meet requirements of the quality control program and if not met, repeats test and ensures the results are approved for reporting. Expected to utilize complex problem-solving skills in resolving clinical and instrument problems.
Requirements:
Associate degree in a related science field is preferred.
Experience in a histopathology laboratory is preferred.
Eligible for certification by recognized certifying agencies.
Certification must be achieved within 2 years of hire.
