Job Description:

Under moderate-to-general supervision, The Senior Social Worker, positioned at The Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center (KCPC), works with a team of service providers (Psychiatry, Psychology, Medical, Correctional Officers, etc.) to conduct forensic competency evaluations, competency restoration, and criminal responsibility evaluations for pre-trial patients. The Senior Social Worker at KCPC also assists in the provision of inpatient treatment for individuals who have been adjudicated incompetent to stand trial and are held on a civil commitment order. The Senior Social Worker at KCPC provides a variety of clinical services, therapy techniques and psycho-educational programs. The Senior Social Worker at KCPC also assists in developing, coordinating and implementing other programs and services, as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs brief individual and family therapy techniques, utilizing Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Expressive Therapy, Problem-Solving Therapy techniques.
  • Available to facilitate and/or co-facilitate various psycho-educational groups around the topics of substance use support, legal education, coping skills, conflict resolution, etc.
  • Maintains and completes service documentation such as psychosocial assessments, progress notes, case reviews, court reports, letters, etc., according to prescribed standards.
  • Conducts case reviews and determines current and future treatment planning, including after-care plans for clients completing treatment, based upon quantitative results and professional opinion of client progress.
  • Consults and collaborates with external agents including CHR, school officials, family members, physicians, and other health agencies, regarding organization's programs and client needs and conditions.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, treatment planning meetings, case conferences, and clinical seminars providing information relating to program administration and development.
  • When appropriate, may be called on to submit correspondence on behalf of a patients in the form of court reports, letters of recommendation, etc.
  • When appropriate, may be called on to conduct case presentations and consultations with other agencies regarding available programs and services.
  • Assists Treatment Team with evaluating at-risk patients to determine the most immediate level of care needed.
  • As needed, assists supervisor or division director with development and coordination of clinical programs.

EDUCATION

  • Master's degree in Social Work. Certified Social Worker (CSW) with social work board-approved Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) supervisor.
  • Compliance with Kentucky's Board of Social Work laws and regulations regarding clinical practices.

EXPERIENCE

  • Two to four years direct social work experience with a minimum of four years post-master's clinical experience.
  • Basic knowledge of mental and physical characteristics of applicable population (e.g., growth and development and range of treatment needed), psychotherapy, human behavior, and related issues and community resources and SCS services.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Potential to undertake supervisory / leadership responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle case load with varying levels of client disability and need.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Position has some unusual physical demands, including occasional exposure tothreat of bodily harm from clients or their families.
  • Normal work tasks may involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.
  • Position at times may require incumbent to remain on twenty-four hour call.
  • Reliable transportation for frequent travel between work sites.
