Overview:

Veeco Instruments, Inc. is currently looking for a hands-on compound semiconductor Application Lab Intern who will primarily be responsible for working in the applications lab, supporting routine MOCVD process runs related to Veeco MOCVD product development. This role includes MOCVD process development activities and requires the operation and maintenance of one or more MOCVD systems. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Technology, who will direct the intern's activities.

Duration:

  • Full-time employment during the Summer and Winter (40 hours a week)
  • Part-time employment during Fall/Spring semester (minimum of 16 hours a week)

Responsibilities:

As an Application Lab Intern, you will build on classroom learning through paid work directly related to your field. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn to load and operate routine MOCVD process runs to support various compound semiconductor-based application development projects
  • Join development activities of advanced & state of the art process technology for photonics application
  • Work with process scientists in conducting application-specific process development on leading-edge process technology
  • Manage, execute, and report on a project supporting improved process and operational capabilities for the MOCVD product line

Qualifications:

  • At least a Seniorin an undergraduate Bachelor's program or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program with a semiconductor or electronic material major is preferred.
  • A background of Material Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering/Chemistry, or Electrical Engineering/Physics is a must.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment are required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience of characterization techniques for thin films such as AFM, SEM, XRD, PL, CV, Hall, Lehighton, or Polaron (ECV) is preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience in semiconductor device physics, and semiconductor material properties, specifically compound semiconductors is preferred.
  • Prior semiconductor fab experience for R&D semiconductor device fabrication is favored.
  • Experience in DOE and experimental data process tools and techniques (JMP, Minitab, etc.) is favored.
